Life is just crazy as all get out!

So, I was sick. That you all know. And I got a job offer... So, what has been going on in the two weeks since?

Well, I met with the vet clinic to talk with them. I went in planning on turning the job down. I like my job, I like the people I work with and I'm happy. But, then they threw me for a loop! More money! Closer to home! Full benefits! Discounted vet care! Better hours! Holidays off! I stuttered as I said I would have to think about it. And I did. Long and hard. I decided to take the job...

So, last week, I went in all prepared to put in my two week notice. Then, the worst happened. I got stabbed with a dirty needle in an unpreventable accident. :( You may not know that I work with Macaque monkeys who carry Herpes B which is 80% fatal. Not good. I had to rush away from what I was doing to start the safety procedure (scrubbing the wound with surgical grade scrub) and then rush to the doctor for blood draws and tests etc.

So, I wasn't able to talk to my boss. :( The next day, I did talk to her and she begged me to stay! Literally! When I said they were offering me more money and better hours, she set up a meeting with the head of HR and they both begged me to stay and offered to work with me as much as possible. They can't offer me more money, it's against company policy, but I'm eligible for a few different raises due to time in my job and my vet tech license etc. They made a compelling argument. Then word spread through my co-workers that I put in my notice. They all begged me to stay- well, they said "Congrats! That's awesome! Get out of here while you still can! Oh, but do you really have to leave?" LOL! They are a bit conflicted about it. :) So, I have spent the last week going back and forth about leaving my job. Should I stay or should I go?

I have ultimately decided to take the job offer. My job promised to take me back if my new job doesn't work out. So, I figure, I'll go give it a try and see how clinic life is. Maybe it's boring, maybe I'll miss the monkeys... Ok, I will for sure miss the monkeys. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the monkeys. But, will I miss them too much? I don't know. What if I don't like the people and I miss my old co-workers? I just don't know how it will turn out, but I do know there isn't much harm in trying out something new. If it doesn't work out, I go back to the monkeys and that is that.

So, I'm leaving my dream job to try something new... definitely not a turn I ever expected.

As far as my exposure goes... Well, that is not going so well. They put my on an antiviral drug. I'm pretty sure it's making me sick, but it's recommended by the CDC that I take it for two weeks. :( One week left. The doc couldn't definitively say that it's the antiviral. He thinks it's possible that I'm just sick... But he also said, " There are not many doctors in this world who have see Herpes B, so keep in touch just in case... But it's only a 1 in 1000 chance that's what is causing the symptoms, but just in case..." Etc. So, we'll see. The last reported case of a human getting Herpes B was 12 years ago and she did everything wrong, she didn't clean, she didn't see a doc for days, all in all, it was poorly handled, so I'm not super worried. I just wish I felt better.

On a separate note- A company has approached me and asked to use some content from my blog to promote a contest they are hosting for military families... Verseo.com is hosting a contest to give away feet warmers to military families. They are hoping that they will be sent to service men in Afghanistan for the cold winters. It's not a bad idea. The contests is open now until Thanksgiving- ish. Check out the 100 Warm Feet Sweepstakes if you are interested. They have not started using my content yet-- there are a number of other bloggers out there that they have contacted also and have to get all of our permission prior to going public, but when they do, I will post that as well. To my understanding it's open to all branches of the military and all status- active, deployed, reserve and state side. Check it out. (I'm not being paid to endorse this, I simply think it's a neat idea.) I did my best to see if it was legit, and as far as I can tell, it is.

feeling guilty

I feel guilty. I'm sick. I went to the doctor yesterday and she thinks it's a bacterial infection. My husband came home from drill a few weeks ago with it from drinking out of shared water bottles that probably are not very clean (you know guys).

Well, I was horribly sick all weekend. I'm starting to feel better, but I'm not well enough to go to work. I feel bad. I hate missing work. I especially hate this because we are short staffed and really busy. Not to mention it's the second time I've been sick at this job in three months... Which is weird because until now I hadn't managed to be sick enough to miss school in a year!

To make it worse, I'm going to use my last sick day (I will be going to the doctor that day) to do my working interview if I am well enough. That makes me feel worse. I totally feel... I don't know, guilty.

Life just keeps getting crazier

Well, it seems that our debit card problems are mostly resolved. We are beings sure to no longer use our pin and that seems to be that.

I met with the vet office that offered me the job. I was prepared to turn it down. I make really good money at my job, more than what most vets will pay. So, I talked to my husband we agreed that if they couldn't offer me the same pay (if not more) and a promise of good benefits and 40 hours a week, then I would turn it down.

I went to the meeting/interview with the office manager and it went amazingly well! And they want to offer me more money! It's great benefits and a really awesome clinic! What was even more amazing was that the vet who owns the practice specifically asked for me! I'm a client there and he told his office manager to contact me when the job opened up. She asked the rest of the staff and they all said they really liked me, so they offered me the job!

It's crazy! I really want to take it. I'm going to do a working interview this week and, assuming it's a good fit for both me and them, I'm most likely going to take the job! It bums me out because I haven't been at my current job long. But 50 hours a week and all of that is really tiring me out. I like my job, but this is a great opportunity. I will be sad to not work with the monkeys anymore... I will miss that, but this is just too good to pass up.

We'll see how this week goes. So crazy!

Crazy Day

So, as stated in my previous post, we had a sizable junk of money stolen out of our account last night. This morning I dealt with it and so far, so good. We are going to be ok and the police are looking into it.

Since my husband and I took the day off of work to deal with this unfortunate event, and it turned out to not take much of the day, we decided to take care of other stuff... Like refinance our home. Which went amazingly well and we are now on our way to an awesome interest rate and much lower monthly payment! During this process, I noticed that I had a message on our home phone. I don't check our land line often and usually only use the phone once a week, if that often. So, I called our voicemail to see who it was.

It was the office manager from our vet. I had no idea why she called. We pay our bills at the time of service and our min pin hadn't had any recent test that were pending results. So, I called her. She was calling to offer me a job. I'm meeting with her on Saturday.

Then she ate my bite guard that I use when I sleep to keep my teeth from grinding, so we ended up at the vet today to make sure she was ok. So far, she's ok. We're keeping an eye on her.

So, doggie- probably ok. Stolen money- provisionally reimbursed to our account. Home loan- refinanced. Job? I have no idea. I don't hate my current job. I've been there two months. But I work way too much, I have no social life because of it and there are some not so great things about management. I have no idea what to do on that front. We'll just have to see what they offer me on Saturday.

Yesterday I got paid. We have been working really hard to pay off all of our debt and are doing great. I took most of my paycheck to pay the last remaining $1000 on one of our credit cards so we can cancel it right away (That would put us down to one credit card to pay and that is it!). This was around 4pm.

I ate dinner and went to bed. (I got to bed at 6:30 because I have to get up at the butt crack of dawn for work). At 11pm, my husband woke me up and asked me if I had made any ATM withdraws that day. I hadn't. He showed me our account online and it showed two withdraws, one for $400 and one for $300, back to back.

I called the credit card company, but they couldn't cancel the transaction. In my excitement to have it paid off, I had scheduled the payment to withdraw same day- meaning, by 11pm, the transaction was already pending and could no longer be canceled. They agreed to not charge me for NSF.

But the banks were all closed. We called the after hours fraud line and got my debt card canceled, but couldn't investigate or do anything about the money being gone.

This morning, I called the bank. The transactions in question were one minute apart at the same ATM about 20 minutes from our house. They are investigating the incident and are crediting our account the money so our payment will still go through. We also plan to contact the police.

The crappy thing? My debit card is still in my wallet. No one stole it. That means someone copied it and stole my pin. I don't even know how! I only use my card once a week, to once every other week, to get gas. I always go to the same two gas stations, and have for years! How would they have gotten my stuff? So crappy!

I'm so frustrated! We are so careful about that kind of stuff! We don't give info out. We don't ever let people borrow our cards. We secure everything we do. We are super cautious. But I guess it can happen to anyone. My husband said he looked up online and found info about really ingenious ways people steal your info... Including these crazy things that they hook to ATMs, and other places you use your pin number, that will copy your magnetic strip and record your pin number.
